Sunshine State Standard 4: Polynomials
"Students perform operations on polynomials.
They find factors of polynomials, learning special techniques for factoring
quadratics. They understand the relationships among the solutions of polynomial
equations, the zeros of a polynomial function, the x-intercepts of a graph, and the factors of a polynomial."
Definitions:
Monomial: a polynomial with one term
Polynomial: a sum or difference of variables of varying powers with coefficients that are either real or imaginary.
Factor of a Polynomial: Any polynomial which evenly divides into a given polynomial.
Important Theorems and Methods:
- Synthetic Division
- Fundamental Theorem of Algebra
- Remainder Theorem
- Rational Root Theorem
- Descartes' Rule of Signs
- Conjugate Root Theorem
- Binomial Theorem
